What to do after a bad marketing agency

By Austin Chesson · 7 min read · 2026-07-06

If you have been burned, you do not need another inspirational sales call. You need diagnosis.

Start with your own numbers: lead volume, response times, estimate rate, cost per booked job. Pay for a real audit you keep. If there is no leak worth fixing, walk.

Ask who owns each handoff. If every vendor points somewhere else, the system — not a single channel — is the problem.

Integrity means someone tells you the truth before they sell you the fix. CHESSON's Fit Call ends with one of three recommendations: audit, fix internally, or work with someone else.

Rebuild on clear scope, client-owned accounts and data, and a scorecard that leadership can trust.
